About Bunbury Fabrics

Located in Southern California since 2009, Bunbury Fabrics is family-owned and operated by my husband and me, it is an online quilt shop for people who daydream about fabrics and patterns and find happiness in making beautiful things. It’s an escape, a place where you’re welcome to get inspired, plan your next sewing project, and browse the latest trends.

Think of us as your local friendly quilt shop. Here you’ll discover a collection of designer fabrics, notions, and patterns, all handpicked by a fellow sewing enthusiast.

Originally named Fashionable Fabrics, our shop has grown thanks to the support of loyal customers like you. Inspired by the fun, energetic spirit of our fellow makers, we renamed it Bunbury, a term with an interesting little history. In the 1895 Oscar Wilde play “The Importance of Being Earnest,” the lead character pretends to have a friend named Bunbury whom he “visits” to get out of obligations. Wouldn't we all just rather be sewing?

Our Story

Fabric and sewing have always had a special place in my heart. As a young girl, I cherished the quilts, crocheted afghans, and dresses my grandmother and mother made for me. These handmade items are priceless to me because of the love and care that went into making them.

Years later, the preciousness of these cherished gifts took on new meaning when our first child was born prematurely. At just 24 weeks and a little over a pound, Ellie survived only a few hours. During this difficult time, the hospital gave us a handmade dress, hat, and blanket for her. This small gesture touched my husband and me deeply. Ever since, sewing has taken on a new meaning for me. What began as a form of therapy, became much more of a love language for me. I am a maker at heart who loves to sew, and seeing someone open up a handmade gift, particularly someone who needs a little comfort, to me is a little slice of Heaven. Creating Bunbury with my husband—my high school sweetheart and partner in everything—is a dream come true, that I am able to share my passion and love of sewing with fellow makers just like you.

Very Sincerely,
Tonia
