Hedgehog PJ Bag Sewing Project
This project was inspired by a doll that my childhood friend Becky had growing up. It's funny the little things you can remember. Becky's doll was special in that she could stuff her PJ's into her and she became a nice plush doll that sat on her bed. I liked the concept of stuffing the Pj's away and not having to fold them into a drawer each morning. Plus, the doll was so cute!
When I ordered the Wildflower Meadow Panel by Riley Blake Designs I honestly, did not know it was a panel to make a purse. I actually thought it was to make a plush hedgehog doll. So, it triggered my memory about the PJ doll and I decided to make it function as one.
I followed all the directions on the Wildflower Meadow Panel in Pink, expect I omitted the strap and tab steps and I added a Kam Snap. I also added Pellon Fusible Fleece to the body of the hedgehog, to give it more substance when the bag is empty. I also made "lounge pants" from the same Wildflower Meadow Collection by Melly & Me. I used the Wildflower Meadow Hedgehog in pink for the main pant fabric and Wildflower Meadow Spots on yellow for the bottom cuff.
To complete the set, I purchased a coordinating yellow t shirt and a navy blue tank top and appliquéd my nieces' initial on the fronts from the left over scraps of the Wildflower Meadow Spots on yellow. I folded the PJ set into the Hedgehog bag and wrapped it up and gave it to my niece that was turning 6 yrs old. Needless to say, she loved it and wore it home that night!
What is so fun with about the Wildflower Meadow Panel is that is comes in 3 different colors, Pink, Red and Blue. It can be made into a purse, plush doll, or Pj bag. I am sure you could come up with some other creative ideas as well!
Another great sewing project you may like is the Butterfly Trail Pillow Kit. The kit includes fabric from Wildflower Meadow Collection, batting, and interfacing needed to complete a 18" pillow sham (pillow insert and thread are not included).
